YESTERDAY WAS A PUBLIC HOLIDAY and fortunately for me it was just one of the few public holidays I had the opportunity to actually stay at home and rest and not having to be at the office alone working or working at one of my firm’s project site. So, the time at home availed me more opportunity to have more solitude.

In my quiet time yesterday, I was led to a scripture and it has been so heavily on my mind till this very moment.

“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”
Revelations 3:5 (NKJV)

The first three words in that verse has been ruminating on my mind since yesterday, “He that overcomes…”

It reminded me once again that one of the major criteria for making heaven is to OVERCOME, it’s only those that overcomes that will be clothed in white garments, and their names will not be blotted out from the book of life.

There’s a very old school song we used to sing in church back in the day that says…

“he that overcometh shall wear a crown of life”

Such songs have completely disappeared from our churches these days and to a very large extent these kind of messages, but then I can’t just resist the burden to share.

Every day we go about our daily businesses, the greatest duty of the enemy – the devil – is to keep us from overcoming. Many of us are held bound by addictions and weaknesses in different areas of our lives. So many are fighting the battle over addiction to sexual sin, some are fighting the battle over addiction to one substance or the other. Some are fighting the battle over the spirit of anger and short temper. Some of us our weaknesses and character flaws always come to show each time matters bothering on money arises. Our love and craving for worldly wealth has pushed us into doing unimaginable things. We are all fighting one battle or the other.

The most heart-breaking part of it all is that there are many sets of people who don’t see these things as a battle, they just live their lives every day as it comes. Whatever the day brings their way they just fall prey to it without any form of remorse or shame for their ungodly choices.

In these day and age when everybody is trying to be ‘woke’, we do all sorts of crazy things just so we are not left out; so, we too can impress and make a statement on social media. But in all these things I want to please remind you that heaven is real and there is a book of life waiting ahead of us. And the only requirement for us to make it is to overcome the things the devil throws at us every day to distract us from focusing on pleasing the one who has called us.

I do not write to scare anyone but I will leave you with these words …

“I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father.”
1 John 2:13 (NKJV)

Yes, I sincerely write to each and every one of us because we are all overcomers through Christ. It is never by might nor by power, but by the spirit of the Lord. I just want to encourage us to yield our lives more to the leading of the Holy Spirit and we will discover that we are indeed overcomers through Christ. We will begin to experience daily victory over our temptations and weaknesses.

You are an over comer!
